Gunnar Nilsson's Cancer Foundation this year's recipient of Bilsport Special Award 2006
SEK 340 140 for the fight against cancer

In connection with the Swedish Car Sports Exhibition in Stockholm professor Dick Killander, chairman of the Gunnar Nilsson Cancer Foundation, received a generous prize from the publisher of the magazine Bilsport, Stig L. Sjöberg - Bilsport Special Award 2006. The prize sum of SEK 340.140 was the total amount of admittance fees paid by visitors to the Porcelain- and Car museums in Karlskrona during the last one and a half years plus some extra donations from, amongst others, former racing driver Picko Troberg.

The prize is a posthumous tribute to Formula 1-driver Gunnar Nilsson who died from cancer in 1978. The words from the jury read: "Gunnar Nilsson did not wish to be remembered as the Swede who won the Belgium Grand Prix at Zolder in 1977. Instead he wanted people to remember him as the one who actively started the fight against cancer".

The entire amount will go to one or more cancer research projects in southern Sweden and will be paid out in connection with Gunnar Nilsson's Cancer Foundation's annual distribution of research grants of approx. 4 millions.

Gunnar Nilsson's Cancer Foundation is supervised by the County Board and the collection of donations is controlled by the Foundation for collection control (SFI).
