3.8 million to cancer researchers

Gunnar Nilsson's Cancer Foundation supports this year, the southern Swedish cancer research with a total of approximately 3.8 million. Last year collected funds - 171 585 SEK - shared by three prominent researchers in Malmö and Lund. 

40 scientists,(three researchers was rewarded for two years) including 39 in Skåne, and 1 in Uppsala, shares of around 3.2 million. The amount consists primarily of proceeds from asset management in the Gunnar Nilsson Cancer Foundation, and is therefore somewhat lower than recent years.

Last year collected funds -171 585 SEK, divided between Dr Yvonne Ceder in Malmö who is searching on prostatacancer, Dr Karin Leandersson Malmö and Dr Lao Saal in Lund. Both are researching in breast cancer. Those three got 57 195 SEK added to their ordinary award.


- Thanks to generous contributions, we can provide an additional support for both cancers. Cancer need all the support it can get, said Chief Martin Malmberg, President of the Cancer Foundation.

Several of this year's recipient of funds from the Foundation is working on Gunnar Nilsson Department at University Hospital in Lund. There are then four years some of the nation's leading cancer researchers gathered under one roof to better benefit from each others expertise and international networks.

Formula 1-driver Gunnar Nilsson died of testicular cancer in 1978. His mother gave in which all his wealth to cancer research, and formed the Gunnar Nilsson's Cancer Foundation. Today, the Foundation contributes to cancer research, especially in southern Sweden with  3-5 million annually.
